THE AWAKENING
T H E A W A K E N I N G
I opened my eyes to a different world.
A world that makes me wanna go back to where I was.
The darkness swallowed me up like it was waiting for me a long time ago. I waited for something to happen.. for something to immerse from the darkness, but there was none. There wasn’t even pain. Is death really this easy? You wouldn’t feel anything? I waited a little longer but nothing happened. Maybe I’m not dead. Maybe those painkillers failed in killing me. Fcuk. I should’ve used a gun. It would’ve done the job.
That’s when I felt it.
PAIN. Pain beyond imagination. It was like I was ran over by Space Shuttle a dozen million times. It was like I was bitten by Edward Cullen or Damon Salvatore a hundred times. It was like I was having a nightmare over and over again. It was like I swallowed painkillers that contained a rose’s thorn. It was pain that a human person cannot endure. It would’ve killed him. I guess I’m already inhuman or in other words, dead, Because,I survived it.
After all that pain, I felt nothing.
Maybe it hadn’t stopped. Maybe my body was already numb to the pain. I tried to move but it was impossible. It was like I was trapped in a small box where I couldn’t move a thing.
After a few minutes or so, I dropped on solid ground. And like a button was pressed, I was able to move again. I stood up, looked around and searched for a person or anything to tell me where I am.
I was successful. Sitting on a big rock, there was a boy. A boy about my age but he had a different aura. It was like the more I neared him, the more I felt sadness beyond what I felt when I was still alive. Despite that, I continued walking to him. I wanted to know where I was. Was this purgatory or hell? Coz’ I’m sure that I’ll never step foot in heaven. I may not be, what you call an active Catholic but I still was baptized as it. I know that what I did was equal to murdering another person. What I did wasn’t in God’s will so technically, I disobeyed his words and I guess, I’m stuck here in this place to pay for what I’ve done.
I was 5 steps away from the boy. I guess he doesn’t know I exist coz’ he just stares at nothing while sitting on that big rock.
I took another step. 4 steps to go. And another, 3.. And another, 2..This is the last one..1..
The moment I took that last step, it was like I was in a different world. I didn’t just see the boy sitiing on the rock. I saw him surrounded by trees, little cottages and people swarming over a fountain. It looked as if I was in paradise.
“Don’t let the looks of this place deceive you.” The boy ,sitting on the rock, suddenly spoke.
“What do you mean?” I replied.
“Just don’t. Believe me.” And after he said that, he walked away from me without even showing his face or introducing himself. I guess he’s not a people person.
I continued walking, looking for someone to ask where I am. This time, I was unsuccessful. No one seemed to notice that I was here. They didn’t even give me a single glance. Where am I? Why didn’t that boy tell me? Why didn’t he show me the way?
“Hello?” I started calling out, but no one seemed to hear me. They just continued on what they were doing as if I was invisible to them.
“Can anyone please help me?” I called out a little louder but still, there was no response.
“PLEASE?!” I was shouting on the top of my lungs but no one seemed to care.
“Can someone please show me the way?” I was getting tired. I was already feeling weak after walking a few steps.
“I’m tired. Please, somebody..” My voice was fading. The pain was back. I could feel it erupting from the insides of my body. A burning sensation fell over me. I was on my knees. I kept calling for help but nothing came out my mouth.
I tried to gather the strength that I had left. And with that I called out.
“Pain. I feel pain. Can someone please show me the way out? PLEASE?!” After that, I felt like my whole body totally weakened. I drained my last remaining strength by calling out to no one. I guess, no one’s here to help.
Before, I completely passed out, I heard his voice again.
“I wish I could but there’s no way out.”
And with that, I let the darkness swallow me up again.
